What areas do you serve?
We cover Santa Cruz, Monterey, Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Francisco and Marin counties primarily. We are happy to journey further if you are interested in receiving our services. A small mileage fee applies to clients outside of Santa Cruz and Marin counties.
What kind of tanks/ponds do you service?
We service all kinds of fish habitats! Be it a pond or tank, saltwater or freshwater, we have experience working with all kinds of fish and aquatic systems.
Do you take students for externship rotations/shadowing?
At this time, we do not have the caseload to support any student involvement. Give us some more time to get established and check back! We are planning on offering student opportunities in the future.
What about other pond critters (i.e. turtles, frogs, etc.)?
We are happy to look at any turtles or frogs in outdoor ponds or indoor terrariums.
What if my fish needs surgical treatment?
We are able to provide high quality surgical treatment for all of our fish patients pond- or tankside! Our setup is fully mobile and we have wonderful staff ready to assist for more complicated procedures.
What experience do you have working with aquatic pets?
Dr. Jessie Sanders has spent years amassing a varied background in aquatic medicine. While pursuing her B.S. in Marine Biology from the University of Rhode Island, Dr. Sanders completed over 2000 hours of volunteer work with Mystic Aquarium’s fish and invertebrate department. In addition, she completed 2 summer internships with the same department, during which she completed her senior honors research project from URI.
Dr. Sanders entered Tufts veterinary school with the intent of becoming an aquatic veterinarian. In addition to the typical veterinary curriculum, Dr. Sanders completed several advanced aquatic medicine courses (AQUAVET I & II, MARVET Grand Cayman) and aquatic externships (Mystic Aquarium, The Marine Mammal Center, SeaWorld Orlando, Aquatic Veterinary Services of Western NY). What do you charge for your services?
We charge per service after an initial service fee. A typical visit with water quality testing and sedation for biopsies from 2-3 fish is approximately $250-$300 at this time.
