Spotlight on Janey Appleseed

My friend, fellow outrigger canoe paddler and fellow entrepreneur, Jean Bathke, is the owner and founder of Janey Appleseed, specializing in handmade, one of a kind dresses, made in small quantities by skilled artisans in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

From Jean:

We love textiles and we love strong design!

Even more, we love people and we care about Human Rights and social justice. We value the lives of people everywhere, near and far. We care about gender equality. We understand that when women are healthy and strong, skilled and economically independent, their entire community echoes with direct benefit. And we know for sure that education and literacy for every child will impact our collective future and pay dividends in the long run.

With these values in mind, we are deeply proud to partner directly with artisans in the DRC. We do so in the genuine spirit of contributing to and benefitting their livelihoods.

We also love handmade, and we value the work and creativity that go into making something really good. We are thrilled to be making darling little dresses that are unique and beyond precious. And its even better that each dress directly promotes fair employment, literacy, and health care, for an outstanding group of ladies and their own little ones.

We think that Janey Appleseed is up to something really special, and we hope you’ll agree!
